Lunch and Learn: Indigenous Medicines and Ceremony

Facilitated by Tinisha Young - Knowledge Keeper, we will delve into the significance of smudging, exploring its meaning and proper execution. Our conversation extends to the importance of prayer in our lives. Additionally, we delve into the ancestral lineage of medicinal practices within Tinisha's family, inherited from her Chapan Virginia McKay of Cumberland House. Respectful engagement with ceremonies is also a topic, wherein we explore various ceremonies and their cultural significance. Moreover, we address the role of allyship for Indigenous peoples and ways to create space within one's life to honor and support Indigenous communities.

Tinisha is a member of Treaty 5 Territory, though she was raised in the heart of Treaty 6 in Lloydminster, Alberta. Throughout her life, she has maintained a deep connection to her Indigenous heritage, which she weaves into her daily existence. One of Tinisha's greatest passions is sharing her culture and knowledge with individuals of all ages. As a knowledge keeper, Tinisha takes great joy in passing down the teachings of her ancestors. She firmly believes that Reconcili-action is paramount for constructing a decolonized world, not only for her own children but also for the prosperity of future generations.
